The International Centre for Environmental Health and Development (ICEHD) with support from African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF), is proud to serve as a key partner supporting the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS) in the ongoing review and consultation process for the Revised National Gender Policy in Agriculture and its Strategic Plan of Action (2025–2030).
Through the leadership of the Ministry’s Gender Unit, and with support from partners including ActionAid Nigeria, GIZ, and AGRA, the consultation forums have brought together stakeholders across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, from gender and policy experts, policymakers and women farmers to CSOs, youth groups, and agripreneurs. ICEHD’s participation underscores its long-standing commitment to gender-responsive agricultural systems and inclusive climate adaptation policies that place rural women at the center of decision-making.
As a funding, technical, and advocacy partner, ICEHD contributed evidence and field insights from its ongoing Grassroots-Driven Climate Action by Rural Women Farmers Project. Drawing on lessons from communities across Nigeria with Abuja and Lagos as focal centres, ICEHD highlighted how empowering women with access to finance, irrigation systems, organic inputs, and leadership spaces drives both productivity and resilience in the agricultural sector.
This process marks a critical step toward ensuring that Nigeria’s agricultural policy framework reflects the realities, aspirations, and leadership of women farmers. ICEHD remains dedicated to advancing the integration of gender, climate justice, and sustainable agriculture in national and state-level policy implementation, ensuring that no woman is left behind in shaping the future of food and climate resilience in Nigeria.
