This World Environment Day, We Choose the Earth
International Center for Environmental Health and Development partners with Africa Climate Justice Movement to #EndPlasticPollution and #DefendAfrica
As the world marks World Environment Day, the International Center for Environmental Health and Development (ICEHD) proudly joins forces with the Africa Climate Justice Movement (ACJM) to amplify a message that can no longer wait:
We are not waiting for change; we are the change.
Across Africa, the growing threats of fossil fuel dependency, corporate pollution, and weak climate action continue to endanger our people, land, air, and waters. Communities are suffering while ecosystems are pushed to the brink. Africa is paying a deadly price. But our story does not end with destruction, it begins with resistance.
But amidst these challenges, a new movement is rising, one that refuses to wait for change. One that chooses to become the change.
Plastic pollution alone is choking our ecosystems and poisoning our future. ICEHD and ACJM are taking bold steps to confront environmental and climate injustices, especially the plastic pollution crisis. This year’s World Environment Day theme, “Ending Plastic Pollution,” aligns with our shared mission to protect our environment and inspire action across the continent.
Here’s the impact we’re already making
β
Over 500 Climate Advocates are leading the charge.
β
More than 20 African cities are rising in solidarity.
β
Dozens of cleanup campaigns are transforming communities, street by street.
β
A vision of Peace, People, and Planet is taking root.
And the momentum is just beginning.
From schools in Lagos to communities in Kinshasa, women, young people, civil society leaders, and grassroots champions are taking action to clean their cities, educate their peers, and advocate for sustainable policies that protect Africa’s future.
ICEHD and ACJM are taking tangible steps to #EndPlasticPollution and #DefendAfrica.
Plastic pollution is more than an environmental problem; it’s a justice issue. It affects the most vulnerable, pollutes our food systems, and contributes to the climate crisis.
We’re not asking for permission to act.
We are acting. And we’re inviting you to join us.
We’re asking you to:
Let this June be the moment you say:
"I stood up for the Earth. I chose the future."
Follow our ongoing impact and events.
π¬ Share your climate story.
This World Environment Day, be remembered for doing something that mattered.
Together, we are the movement. Together, we are the hope.
Choose the Earth.
