Personal Hygiene and Empowerment Workshop

To commemorate the International Day of the Girl Child, the International Centre for Environmental Health and Development (ICEHD) organized a Personal Hygiene and Empowerment Workshop for girls aged 9-16years at The National Guide High School in Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria.

The workshop aimed to empower female students with information on personal hygiene, career choices, and gender equality. The event highlights included:

  • Personal Hygiene:  we emphasized the importance of personal hygiene and menstrual health management, which included a demonstration on the proper use and disposal of sanitary pads.
  • Career Choices: the girls were guided through various career paths, and encouraged to explore all careers as non is gender specific, emphasizing the significance of informed decision-making for their future career engagements.
  • Gender Equality: we addressed the critical topic of gender equality in the school environment, community and workplace, highlighting the importance of equal opportunities for girls and boys and how girls can speak up and confidently access those opportunities.
  • Interactive Q&A Session: the girls actively engaged with our speakers, asking questions and sharing their thoughts.

Each participant received essential hygiene materials, including sanitary pads and educational resources on career exploration. The positive feedback from participants underscored the workshop's impact, with many expressing newfound confidence in both personal hygiene and career choices.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the school administration for their support and to everyone who participated. We look forward to greater strides as we continue to empower young girls in our community.
