ICEHD Collaboration with WOSID to Empower Rural Women Farmers in Abuja.
The International Centre for Environmental Health and Development (ICEHD) has partnered with the Women Solidarity Initiatives for Development (WOSID) in a strategic collaboration to empower rural women farmers in Abuja, and across Nigeria. This partnership reflects ICEHD’s mission to support grassroots organizations by strengthening their systems, expanding their reach, and promoting sustainable, inclusive development.
As part of this partnership, ICEHD organized and facilitated a two-day intensive training on the production of organic compost and natural pesticides, specifically tailored for rural women farmers. The training, conducted during ICEHD’s official visit, took place at Magapraise Farms, a dynamic agricultural enterprise owned and operated by WOSID. The farm stands as a testament to women’s leadership in advancing food systems and environmental stewardship.
ICEHD’s contribution goes beyond training, and includes capacity building, mentorship, and structural development support to ensure WOSID operates with greater efficiency, accountability, and long-term sustainability. By grooming the WOSID system to achieve higher structural performance, ICEHD aims to amplify its grassroots impact across sectors.
This initiative aligns with WOSID’s diverse agricultural and enterprise-focused programs, including:
✅ Access to agricultural machinery and supplies
✅ Fish farming and poultry production
✅ Cocoa processing and palm kernel oil production
✅ Fruit Shop and Value Chain Expansion
✅ Palm Kernel Oil and Groundnut Oil Production
✅ Skills development in adire and Aso-Oke fabric production
Together, ICEHD and WOSID are building replicable models for community-led, women-centered development, one that boosts food security, promotes organic agriculture, and fosters economic independence through climate-resilient and locally driven innovations.
ICEHD as Anchor Partner to the Africa Climate Justice Movement, and her work on strategic direction and governance within the Movement, is poised to integrate and extend the collaboration with WOSID within the African continent.
