CLIMATE JUSTICE & ENVIRONMENT SUPPORT PROGRAM (CJ/ESP)

The environment is the surroundings and conditions in which humans, animals, plants and everything else exists and operates. It is the natural world around us, encompassing all living and non-living things found in the air, land and water. The fact that we live within environments means everything in the environment affects us, which means every activity within the environment must be carefully undertaken to protect human health. CJ/ESP provides climate information and education on shifting patterns of weather condition and impacts of climate change, its vulnerabilities and gendered aspects, including the connection between environmental conditions and human health, especially the health of vulnerable groups such as women, girls, children and vulnerable individuals with challenging health conditions. CJ/ESP seeks to promote SDG 13 and women’s rights, at the intersection of gender, climate and environmental justice and pollution prevention through climate action and environmental interventions to address violations and inequalities that deny access to inclusivity and undermine human health in diverse ways.

We also undertake public health, hygiene and WASH interventions that focuses on prevention, care, and support for communities to enable people, especially vulnerable women, girls and children live healthy productive lives. ICEHD works with government agencies in charge of the departments of climate change, clean environment, industries and corporate actors to provide information through interactions, workshops and conferences and monitor compliance to climate commitments, environmental laws and regulations. We also use this medium to demand for recourse processes to address violations.

Women In Agriculture & Farming

ICEHD focuses on SDGs 1 and 2 by working with smallholder women farmers and young women in agriculture to provide capacity building in climate change mitigation measures, adaptability, climate-smart agriculture, soil quality improvement and innovative farming technology.

As increased temperature and changing patterns of rainfall impacts soil quality and crop harvest, smallholder women farmers battle against malnutrition, hunger, and poverty. ICEHD provides interventions with capacity strengthening tools, farm kits and innovative farm techniques to enable women gain resilience and address the adverse impact of climate change on agricultural produce, food insecurity, access to markets and sustainable income.

Youths for Climate Action

ICEHD provides climate education and youth empowerment intervention projects for young people, especially girls in secondary schools to create awareness about environmental conservation, approaches to mitigation of impacts of climate change, hygiene and sanitation. We build the capacity of young leaders through skills and competence building for innovative solutions to climate crisis, foster knowledge sharing and cross-learning opportunities, encourage networking of peer exchanges and co-creating collaborative opportunities
